For families navigating the world of neuro-difference, the path is often blocked by a daunting hurdle: the dreaded waitlist. In our region, the shortage of care for children in need of autism testing, mental health support, and coordinated therapies has reached a crisis point. Many parents find themselves stuck in a loop of referrals and dead ends, while their children lose precious time to learn and make progress as they grow.

At KiDS 0 to 18 Integrative Pediatrics, we believe you shouldn't have to walk this path alone. We are proud to be one of the only Centers of Excellence (COE) for Autism in our area that maintains available space for expert, thorough testing. We provide a timely alternative to the long wait times often seen at larger hospital systems.

We aren't just "checking a box"; we are your partners in the journey, providing a deep-dive evaluation that meets and exceeds the strict rules and standards set by the state of Washington, insurance providers, federal funding agencies, and renowned university-affiliated children's hospitals.

The "Deep Dive": What Real Testing Looks LikeA diagnosis is only as good as the data behind it. Our process is designed to be exhaustive because your child is more than just a label. To meet the highest medical standards, our testing includes:

  • Complete Developmental History: Understanding your child's "story" from birth to now.
  • Thorough Record Review: Analyzing every medical, school, and mental health record available.
  • Genetic & Medical Screening: Checking for underlying biological factors.
  • Professional Interviews and Observations: Using reliable, industry-leading tools (including the ADI-R and MIGDAS-2) to measure behavior and thinking patterns.
  • Life Skills Testing (Adaptive Skills): We use specialized tools like the Vineland-3 and DP-4 to measure how your child manages daily tasks like communication, self-care, and playing with others.

Why this matters: There is a critical difference between a diagnosis and the establishment of "disability" for funding. While a diagnosis identifies the condition, this testing documents the tangible, everyday needs that insurance and government agencies (like the DDA) are legally or contractually required to support. It proves the level of help your child actually requires to thrive.

Beyond the Label: Mapping the "Brain Style"When we finish our assessment, you walk away with a complete roadmap. Our reports detail:

  1. All Mental Health Findings: Often, autism comes with other things like ADHD or anxiety.
  2. Levels of Support: Defining exactly how much help your child needs to navigate their day.
  3. Brain Style: This is the "user manual" for your child. It explains how they learn best, how they thrive, and how families, teachers, and therapists can best support them.

At the Helm: Coordinating the Whole PictureA diagnosis is just the beginning; the real work starts when we have the results. At KiDS 0 to 18, we act as the navigator, managing the entire "environment of care" (Speech, Occupational Therapy, ABA, and counseling) with a focus on real progress:

  • SMART Goals: We help you set goals that are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
  • Measuring Progress: We don't just guess if things are working. We meet with you regularly and use validated assessments to determine if the therapies are actually hitting the goals or if we need to adjust the plan.
  • School Collaboration & IEP Support: We act as a bridge between your family and the school system. We provide clear, clinical recommendations for Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure your child's learning environment matches their brain style.
  • Judicious Medication Management: For children with ADHD, depression, anxiety, or mood disorders, we manage medications with a "start low and go slow" approach.

Building the Future: Our Two-Year ExpansionThe current shortage of therapists is a major barrier for our families. To solve this, we have a two-year plan in motion to bring these services directly to you, under one roof:

  1. Counseling (The First Step): We are currently hiring to bring counseling services directly into our clinic.
  2. Expanded Therapies: Our plan includes bringing Speech (SLP), Occupational Therapy (OT), and ABA services in-house.
  3. Sensory Play Gym: We are planning a state-of-the-art indoor gym that will be open to the public. This will be a safe place where all children—both neuro-typical and neuro-divergent—can play together and alongside each other.
